Harsh Readers Circle: Special Event with The New Internationals Author David Wright Faladé

The Harsh Readers Circle presents a special event with author and creative writing professor David Wright Faladé on Saturday, 19th September 2026 at the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Picture it: Paris, 1947. A love triangle that consists of a bourgeois French Jewish girl newly awakened to political commitment, an aspiring architect descended from the rulers of Dahomey, and a charming Black American GI. They meet in the post-war capital’s increasingly fraught, increasingly cosmopolitan stir. Things get complicated. RSVP for online attendance here. About the Author David Wright Faladé is a Professor of English at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His novel Black Cloud Rising was published by Grove Atlantic in 2022. His work—including the short story “Amarillo Boulevard” and “Mixeded: The Truth About My Father,” the essay that “tells the story behind” The New Internationals—has appeared in The New Yorker. Wright Faladé received his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  The 40-year-old Harsh Readers Circle (HRC) is inspired by the Book Review and Lecture Forum, the brainchild of the collection’s namesake Vivian Harsh. HRC meets the third Saturday of every month (excluding December) in the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection, which is located within Woodson Regional Library at 9525 S. Halsted Street. The circle is devoted to reading and discussing Black literature. Wright Faladé’s latest novel The New Internationals is the circle’s September selection.
