EveryLibrary Presents: Author Alexander McCall Smith

Join Chicago Public Library and EveryLibrary for a conversation with author Alexander McCall Smith on his latest book, The Big Cats Dance Party: No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (27).  The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency is McCall Smith’s most beloved and remunerable series. In total it has sold more than 2.1 million copies across formats in the United States alone. In this latest installment of Alexander McCall Smith’s beloved No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency Series, Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi volunteer for an important case up north involving an elephant sanctuary, leaving assistant detective Charlie to manage a complicated and potentially risky new one back home.  Alexander McCall Smith is the author of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency novels and a number of other series and stand-alone books. His works have been translated into more than forty languages and have been bestsellers throughout the world. He lives in Scotland. Alexander will be in conversation with John Chrastka, founder of EveryLibrary, and will discuss his work and celebrate libraries as cultural spaces. This event is co-presented by EveryLibrary. EveryLibrary, the national political action committee dedicated to protecting and advancing libraries nationwide, will bring its advocacy directly to readers. Through grassroots organizing, campaign support, and national advocacy, EveryLibrary works to secure funding, fight censorship and book bans, and build lasting public support for libraries across the country. How to Attend: Doors to the Winter Garden open at 5p.m., and seating is first come, first served (280 capacity). Once the Winter Garden fills, overflow seating will be available for those who wish to view the live simulcast in the South Hall. (200 capacity).  Books will be available for purchase and the author will sign a maximum of 3 books per person, as time permits. This event will also take place live on CPL's YouTube channel and CPL's Facebook page. You'll be able to ask questions during the event as well! Can't make it to the live stream?
