Join Chi-Town Reading Circle at Chicago Public Library’s Whitney M. Young, Jr. Branch for a discussion of One Safe Place with Alvin L. A. Horn and his readers. Copies are available at the Whitney M. Young, Jr. circulation desk. Also, he will inform readers about his future projects. Like the stories of Hemingway, the poetry of Langston Hughes, and the novels of Walter Mosley, Alvin’s African American experiences living in Seattle, Washington. His seven decades of living shine through in his poetry, short stories, and novels. Another one of his books in Chicago Public Library's system is Perfect Circle. It is an awesome read! Growing up in the “liberal on the surface” Seattle, he feels his passion for writing was sparked by the gray-haired librarian, who introduced him to Richard Wright and James Baldwin. After reading Nikki Giovanni's and Ice Berg Slim's work, Alvin knew he wanted to write love stories, poetry, and crime novels. Alvin also had a storied career as an athlete, coach, and musician; the skills and knowledge from those backgrounds often appear in his writings. Alvin is a highly acclaimed spoken-word artist. His writings have appeared in ten novels and many other publications. How to Attend This event is available in person and online. Attend in person at the Whitney M.
