Chicago: The Birthplace of Black History Tour with Dilla the Urban Historian

This bus tour celebrates Chicago as the birthplace of Black history. Led by Chicago’s own Urban Historian Sherman “Dilla” Thomas of Mahagany Tours, he will guide tourists to key Chicago locations that fostered the growth of Black history as an academic subject, and the organization that started it, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASAALH), founded in 1915 at the Wabash YMCA. Learn more in our archives!  Presented as part of the Renaissance Project, this event invites participants to actively engage with the rich and often untold stories of Black history and heritage at Chicago Public Library.
