Putting AI to Work: A Practical Session for Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs

There's a lot of talk about AI right now, and it can be hard to separate the hype from what's actually useful. If you run a small business, you probably haven't had time to sit down and figure out where it fits. Join Cory Garfin from SCL CPTL for a discussion and some hands-on experimentation to make AI work for you, whether you're already using it every day or have only heard about it. The session will cover the kinds of uses that genuinely save time and how to spot the ones that fit your business. You'll leave having tried it on a real task of your own, with a plan for what to do next. No experience needed, and you'll be able to use a library computer or bring your own laptop.Cory Garfin is a researcher, strategist, and builder working at the intersection of culture and technology. He and Devon VanHouten-Maldonado run SCL CPTL (“social capital”), an AI guidance and implementation firm for mission-driven organizations and small businesses. Cory previously worked with the Chicago Public Library when he helped design YOUmedia, the teen digital learning space at Harold Washington Library Center, a model since replicated in libraries and other civic institutions nationwide. He has recently led AI workshops for organizations including the Chicago Vibrant Neighborhoods Collective, Arts Alliance Illinois, and the Society for Health Communication.
