Join other aspiring authors this fall for Write at CPL, a series of workshops presented by our partners at Story Studio. This workshop will focus on Finding the Story in Your Life: A Memoir Writing Workshop and is led by Kim Brooks. This interactive workshop introduces key craft elements of memoir writing—including scene-building, voice, and selecting meaningful details—through short lectures paired with generative writing exercises. Participants will leave with new writing tools and pages of fresh material, all in a supportive space designed for both new and experienced writers. No prior writing experience necessary—just curiosity about your own story. Kim Brooks is the author of Small Animals, an NPR Best Book of the Year, described by the National Book Review as “an impassioned, smart work of social criticism and a call for support and empathy.” Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Chicago Magazine, Salon, Buzzfeed, and other publications. She has spoken as a guest on CBS This Morning, PBS Newshour, 20/20, NPR’s All Things Considered, Good Morning America, the Brian Lehr Show, and many other radio shows and podcasts. Her novel, The Houseguest, was published in 2016. She lives in Chicago. Due to limited space, registration is required.
