40 Days of Rain
About this event
A dark comedy on antisemitism – and the lack of it – in Finland. 40 Days of RainA dark comedy on antisemitism – and the lack of it – in Finland.Antisemitism remains a serious problem in Finland today. 40 Days of Rain is a collection of scenes drawn from the real experiences of Jews in Finland, exploring the absurdity and tragedy of uncomfortable moments where prejudice surfaces: splitting a bill, chatting with a neighbour, going about ordinary life. What happens when you act on assumptions you didn't know you had? The performance could not be more timely.40 Days of Rain is a performance developed from the play Juuta-Juutalainen, written by Emma Kalmár, Panni Puskás, and András Vinnai. It draws on interviews conducted as part of the Åbo Akademi University project Antisemitism Undermining Democracy, commissioned in Hungary by Gólem Theatre. The performance was created by a group of curious, brave teenagers willing to explore this societal phenomenon firsthand. The project is funded by Koneen Säätiö and the Polin Institute, and forms part of the PhD research of Nóri Varga.Performed and created by Mila Ðaković, Lumi Kari, Louis Paqvalén, Malaika Seppänen, Helmiina Sippola, Maisa MursulaDirected and facilitated by Nóri VargaAuthors of the play: Emma Kalmár, Panni Puskás, András Vinnai, initiator: András BorgulaMembers of the research group Antisemitism Undermining Democracy: Mercédesz Czimbalmos, Dóra PatariczaWe would like to thank all the contributors, those who initiated discussions, raised questions, and shared their stories!Location: Maunula House, MetsäpurosaliFree tickets: lippu.fi
